It was a comprehensive victory on Saturday afternoon, as AKFC overwhelmed visiting Panathinaikos B, 3-0, at Grigoris Lamprakis Stadium.
AKFC quickly created two major chances in the opening 10 minutes, as Giannis Loukinas headed wide from Javier Matilla’s cross and Demethryus’ close range shot was denied by an outstanding kick-save from Panathinaikos ‘keeper Klidman Lilo.
As the pressure continued, the lively Andreas Vasilogiannis drew a second yellow from Panathinaikos right-back Georgios Tourkochoritis, putting the visitors down to 10 men in the 21st minute — and AKFC would immediately take advantage, scoring twice in the next six minutes.
In the 23rd minute, after a dizzying passing sequence, Panagiotis Kynigopoulos found himself with time and space in the box, and, despite being on his weaker left foot, drilled a shot past the ‘keeper. Four minutes later, Matilla again picked out Loukinas, and this time the captain headed in his 10th goal of the season between league and cup.
AKFC remained fully in control through the second half, and manager Alekos Vosniadis handed debuts to newly signed Argentinian duo Lucas Necul and Gonzalo Torres, who came on in the 68th minute and 70th minute, respectively. Necul nearly marked the occasion with an assist, but Kynigopoulos was flagged offside on his finish.
AKFC would finally add a third goal in the 90th minute, as Vasilogiannis capped an excellent performance with an easy finish following a corner.
At the back, Giannis Tsivelekidis played 84 minutes in his full debut for the club, as AKFC recorded their fifth clean sheet in seven home matches this season.
