SL2 23/24: Athens Kallithea 1-0 Egaleo

AKFC captured their fourth straight win on Sunday afternoon, edging out visitors Egaleo, 1-0, at a frigid Grigoris Lamprakis Stadium.

On the attack from the start, Panagiotis Kynigopoulos shot just over the bar in the 10th minute, and Giannis Loukinas went close on two set-ups from Orestis Tsintonis within the first half-hour, until the breakthrough finally came when Andreas Vasilogiannis’ tricky dribbling drew a penalty, with Javier Matilla dispatching the spot-kick in the 32nd minute.

After the break, Athanasios Pantos would step up with an important save in the 48th minute to preserve the lead, as Egaleo pushed hard for an equalizer through the second half. Gonzalo Torres, coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute, would have AKFC’s best chance for an insurance goal, but saw his powerful first-time shot denied by ‘keeper Dimitrios Katsimitros, and the focus would gradually shift to defending the lead.

Egaleo’s main threat would come from a series of late corner kicks, but AKFC would stay tough and close out the match, and in doing so recorded their fourth consecutive clean sheet at home.

In defense, recently signed left-back Marko Jevremović made his full debut and went all 90 minutes.

The result extends AKFC’s lead at the top of the table to six points.
