SL2 22/23: Athens Kallithea 3-0 Ilioupoli

After taking a first-half lead on Monday afternoon, AKFC would keep a firm grip on the match before putting the result beyond doubt with two late goals, registering a 3-0 victory over Ilioupoli at El Paso in Matchday 13 of the 2022/23 Super League 2 season.

AKFC dominated the ball from the start and would find a breakthrough in the 24th minute. With the visitors pinned back deep in their own end, Nili played the ball out to the right wing and Panagiotis Kynigopoulos quickly picked out Demethryus who flicked a header past the ‘keeper.

As they methodically probed for a second goal without overcommitting, AKFC’s next clear chance would not come until early in the second half when Spyros Vlachos headed against the bar from a corner.

As the match wore on, the narrow 1-0 lead was a bit unnerving, but the introductions of right-back Abdul Rahman Weiss, attacking midfielder Adil Nabi, and striker Nikos Ioannidis gave AKFC a spark of energy and creativity that would help finally unlock the defense.

In the 85th minute, Nabi celebrated his club debut by setting up the second goal, playing a slide-rule pass in behind the defense for Kynigopoulos to slot past a helpless ‘keeper.

Kynigopoulos would add the third goal in stoppage time, driving in a shot after Ioannidis headed a long ball down into his path, and all three points were secured for AKFC.
