With new manager Georgios Simos making his debut on the bench, AKFC registered their third win and most dominant performance on this still-young campaign, defeating visitors AEK Athens B by the score of 3-0 at Grigoris Lamprakis Stadium in Matchday 5 of the 2022/23 Super League 2 season.
AKFC would grab the lead straight away. In the 5th minute, a cross from the right wing was touched by an AEK defender’s hand in the box, and Giannis Loukinas would convert the ensuing penalty for his second goal of the season.
In response, AEK B would risk forward and were a threat to equalize, but ‘keeper Georgios Strezos was excellent in goal when called upon, and AKFC would carry their 1-0 lead into half-time.
After the break, AKFC would immediately double the advantage just one minute into the second half, as right-back Vasilios Rentzas drove a cross into the box and Panagiotis Kynigopoulos headed down and into the net for his second goal of the season.
From there, AKFC were in complete command, playing some of their most attractive football of the season, with Nili a protagonist in his new role as a central attacking-midfielder. In the 60th minute, they nearly scored again, but AEK B ‘keeper Vasilios Chatziemmanouil made a spectacular save on a close-range header from Demethryus.
In the 86th minute, AKFC put the match away when substitute Thanos Kostanasios played one-two with Loukinas and ripped a shot into the top corner to seal all three points.
