SL2 22/23: Athens Kallithea 2-0 Episkopi

In complete control throughout the match, AKFC would hit a goal in each half to claim a 2-0 win over Rethymno-based side Episkopi at Grigoris Lamprakis Stadium on Saturday afternoon in Matchday 25 of the 2022/23 Super League 2 season.

AKFC were missing midfield duo Javier Matilla and Omar Santana due to injury, but 23-year-old Paris Babis would put in an outstanding performance in Matilla’s place as the deep-lying distributor, while Konstantinos Bouloulis replaced Santana and opened the scoring.

In the 20th minute, Demethryus outmuscled a marker in midfield and charged towards goal before laying the ball off to his right for Bouloulis, who lined up a shot from outside the box that fizzed inside the far post to put AKFC in front.

AKFC’s best opportunities to extend their lead would come in the second half. Orestis Tsintonis fired over the bar from close range in the 53rd minute and Giannis Loukinas failed to poke the ball past the ‘keeper after beating his man in the 72nd minute, but the breakthrough would finally come. In the 80th minute, substitute Adil Nabi served up a corner kick that bounced around in front of goal before Nikos Kainourgios arrived to drive it in and close out the match.

The victory extends AKFC’s unbeaten run at El Paso to 18 matches, and keeps up the pressure in the promotion race with five rounds to go.

AKFC return to action on Friday with a trip to Kalamata in Matchday 26 of the 2022/23 Super League 2 season.
