AKFC put in a brave performance against AEK on Sunday night, going blow for blow with last season’s championship runners-up, and despite chances for both sides, neither could break the deadlock, with a scoreless draw as a fair result.
AKFC created the first major chance of the match in the 27th minute, when Thierry Moutinho squared the ball across the face of goal and right-wingback Georgios Manthatis arrived for a first-time shot that was stopped by AEK ‘keeper Thomas Strakosha.
At the other end, AKFC ‘keeper Bernabé would make a heroic double save in the 33rd minute to keep the match scoreless.
The two sides would continue trading chances in the second half, with Demethryus and Niclas Eliasson going close in the 55th minute and 59th minute, respectively.
In the 67th minute, Moutinho has a glorious opportunity to win the match, when a deflected ball found him all alone in front of goal, but he would scuff his shot and miss the target.
In the 73rd minute, AKFC had claims for a penalty waved away, when Stavros Pilios pulled down Elia Giani in his effort to shoot on target from Mathieu Valbuena’s free-kick.
AKFC produced the final chance of the match in the 89th minute when Andreas Vasilogiannis brilliantly flicked the ball into space for Pyry Soiri who drove a powerful shot on goal, but Strakosha would step us with his best save of the match.
AKFC are now unbeaten in two home matches this season, with draws against Panathinaikos in Matchday 2 and AEK in Matchday 5.
