Nikolaos Ioannidis joins Athens Kallithea FC

Athens Kallithea FC announce the acquisition of striker Nikos Ioannidis on a free transfer following the mutual termination of his contract with Super League 1 club Ionikos. Ioannidis, 28, has signed personal terms through the 2023/24 season.

A former Greece youth international, Ioannidis has registered 15 goals and six assists in total at the Super League 1 level and also has experience in Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, and Portugal.

Born in Germany, Ioannidis moved to Greece at a young age, passing through Pandramaikos before arriving at Olympiacos, where he rose through the academy to make his first team debut just shy of his 19th birthday in the semifinals of the 2012/13 Greek Cup, which was eventually won by Olympiacos.

Following his Olympiacos debut, Ioannidis would go out on a series of loans to Hansa Rostock in the German third tier (six goals in 30 appearances), PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie (seven total appearances, including one appearance in the UEFA Europa League), and Borussia Dortmund II in the German third tier (one goal in 23 appearances).

In January 2016, Ioannidis left Olympiacos to sign for Super League 1 club Asteras Tripolis, scoring eight goals in 44 league and cup appearances for the club over the next season and a half.

Ioannidis would move abroad again in July 2017, signing for Hungarian top flight club Diósgyőr, where he scored seven goals in 39 league and cup appearances, which earned him a transfer to the Portuguese Primeira Liga with Marítimo, though he would feature sparingly in one season with the club.

In September 2019, Ioannidis returned to Greece with Super League 2 side Doxa Drama, and after scoring five goals in nine matches he was quickly snapped up midseason by an ambitious Apollon Smyrnis, who would earn promotion to Super League 1 with Ioannidis contributing three goals in nine matches in the second half of the 2019/20 season.

Over the next two seasons with Apollon in Super League 1, Ioannidis would score nine goals in 61 league appearances (42 starts).

Following Apollon’s relegation, Ioannidis remained in the top flight with Ionikos, making 13 appearances (four starts) through the first half of the ongoing 2022/23 season.

At international level, Ioannidis represented Greece from the Under-17 to Under-21 levels, and scored seven goals in his 11 caps for the Under-21 side, including six goals in qualification for the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Welcome, Nikos.
