Giannis Varkas joins Athens Kallithea FC

Athens Kallithea FC announce the acquisition of attacking midfielder Giannis Varkas, 27, on a free transfer following the mutual termination of his contract with Egaleo.

Born in Chalkida, Varkas came through the academy of Olympiacos before moving on to Apollon Smyrnis, making his Super League debut in October 2018 at the age of 20. After the club’s relegation, Varkas helped Apollon win promotion back to the Super League in the 2019/20 season. He would make 42 total appearances with two goals and one assist in three seasons at the club.

After productive seasons at Chania in 2021/22 and Ilioupoli in 2022/23, Varkas would join Egaleo where was a key figure over the last two-and-a-half seasons, making 78 total appearances with 11 goals and seven assists.

Emerging as one of the league’s most skillful and versatile attacking players, Varkas has accumulated 115 career appearances with 13 goals and 12 assists at the Super League 2 level.

He is a former Greece youth international at the Under-17 and Under-21 levels.
