Born in Dunedin, New Zealand, McGarry launched his professional career at Wellington Phoenix in Australia’s A-League. After two seasons with Willem II in the Dutch Eredivisie, McGarry returned to Australia, spending two more seasons at Wellington Phoenix, one season at Newcastle Jets, and one season at Central Coast Mariners, with whom he won the A-League championship in 2023. McGarry earned a move to Aberdeen in August 2023, making 28 total appearances for the club over the last season and a half before joining AKFC on loan in January 2025.
