Athens Kallithea FC announce the acquisition of Czech left wing-back Matěj Hanousek on a free transfer.
Hanousek, 31, is a veteran of the Czech first division, including three seasons with the country’s biggest club, Sparta Praha, with whom he is a winner of the Czech Cup, before moving on to spend the last three seasons in the top leagues of Poland and Turkey.
Born in Prague, Hanousek began his professional career with Dukla Praha, making his top flight debut at the age of 19 in May 2013. After emerging as a regular starter over the next two seasons, Hanousek would move to Jablonec, where he would spend three and a half seasons, highlighted by a third-place finish in 2017/18 and UEFA Europa League participation in 2018/19, which ultimately earned him a transfer to Czech giants Sparta Praha in January 2019.
At Sparta, Hanousek would make 80 total appearances with three goals and six assists over the next three seasons, winning the Czech Cup in 2019/20 and playing in the UEFA Europa League in 2020/21.
After nine consecutive seasons with 177 total appearances in the Czech first division, Hanousek would go out on loan to the Polish Ekstraklasa with Wisła Kraków in 2021/22 and the Turkish Süper Lig with Gaziantep and Ankaragücü in 2022/23, until Ankaragücü acquired Hanousek on a permanent transfer for the 2023/24 season, with Hanousek making 37 total appearances for the club over the last season and a half.
In international play, Hanousek represented the Czech Republic at the Under-20 and Under-21 levels
Welcome, Matěj.
