Athens Kallithea FC announce the acquisition of defensive midfielder Iraklis Garoufalias following the expiration of his contract with Ellas Syrou.
Garoufalias, 33, brings extensive experience with 59 career appearances in the Super League and 75 career appearances in Super League 2, and is coming off a productive season having contributed a career-high four goals to Ellas Syrou’s campaign in 2025/26.
Born in Athens, Garoufalias came through the academy of AEK and played a season in Super League 2 with Fostiras before emerging in the Super League with PAS Giannina, where he made 65 total appearances between league and cup with three goals over four seasons from 2014/15 to 2017/18, helping the club finish as high as 6th in the Super League on two occasions.
In summer 2018, Atromitos, fresh off a 4th place finish in the Super League, would acquire Garoufalias. After making his European debut in a UEFA Europa League qualifier in July 2018, Garoufalias would go out on loan to Apollon Smyrnis for the remainder of the 2018/19 season and return to play for Atromitos in the 2019/20 season.
In summer 2020, Garoufalias would move to the Cypriot First Division with Olympiakos Lefkosias, making 27 total appearances as the club went on to finish 6th in the league in 2020/21.
Upon his return to Greece, Garoufalias spent two seasons at Larissa and two more seasons at Egaleo and Diagoras before arriving at Syros last summer, helping the island club to a 5th place finish in Super League 2 in 2025/26.
Welcome, Iraklis.
