Emanuel Insúa joins Athens Kallithea FC

Athens Kallithea FC announce the acquisition of Argentinian defender Emanuel Insúa, 34, on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Racing de Ferrol in Spain.

Insúa has more than 200 career appearances in Argentina’s Primera División and domestic cup competitions with some of the country’s most storied clubs, including Boca Juniors, Newell's Old Boys, Racing Club, Vélez Sársfield, and Banfield, and previously spent four seasons in Greece with Panathinaikos and AEK.

Born in Buenos Aires, Insúa came through the academy at Boca Juniors and made his first team debut at the age of 21 in May 2012. After a successful season-long loan at Godoy Cruz, Insúa returned to Boca and emerged as a regular in the team, making 41 total appearances with two goals and six assists over the next season-and-a-half, which earned him a transfer to Spain’s La Liga with Granada in January 2015.

Insúa would make 12 appearances for Granada in the second half of the 2014/15 season, and then move to Italy’s Serie A with Udinese in August 2015, though he would spend most of his tenure with the Bianconeri on loan back in Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys and Racing Club, making 35 total appearances in the Primera División between the two clubs during that period.

In August 2017, Panathinaikos moved for Insúa, and the Argentine would spend three seasons at the club, making 70 total appearances across all competitions with four goals and three assists. Insúa would make a cross-town switch to AEK in August 2020, making 19 appearances for the club in the 2020/21 season, including six appearances in the UEFA Europa League, before returning to Argentina.

Insúa would spend the next four years in Argentina’s Primera División with Aldosivi (28 appearances in 2021), Vélez Sarsfield (18 appearances in 2022) and Banfield (68 appearances in 2023 and part of the 2024 season), and served as captain at the latter club before making yet another move to Europe.

Insúa returned to Spain with Racing de Ferrol in February 2025, and made 11 appearances in Spain’s Segunda División in the over the second half of the 2024/25 season, before joining AKFC.

Welcome, Emanuel.
